The Gibeonites went to Gilgal where Joshua and his men were camped and asked to make a peace covenant with Israel, saying that they caine from a land far away, Joshua 9:6-13
Joshua and his men made peace with the Gibeonites to let them live, but they did not ask for the counsel of Jehovah God, Joshua 9:14-19.
Joshua made a covenant of peace to let the Gibeonites live
Three days after the covenant, they arrived at the cities of Gibeon and Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim
Israelites found out that the Gibeonites had deceived them, and they wanted to kill them but because of the covenant they could not touch them
Joshua called the Gibeonites and asked them to explain why they did this, Joshua 9:21-27
They said, "We were very afraid for our lives and did this thing, and now we are in your hands to do whatever seems appropriate."
Joshua did not slay them, but made the Gibeonites woodcutters and drawers of water for the assembly and the altar of Jehovah
