Dividing The Land According To God's Word

BONUS VERSE: Colosslans 1:12 Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you for a share of the allotted portion of the saints in the light
  1. The good land was promised to the children of Israel- Genesis 13:15
    1. The land was divided according to God's word and portions were allotted for each tribe and family- Numbers 26:52-56
      1. The first part of the good land, east of the Jordan River-Joshua 13:23-32
        1. The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half tribe of Manasseh had asked Moses for this land since it was good for cattle Moses promised them this part of the land if they would fight to help theft brothers, the other tribes, gain their portion of the rest of the land-Num. 32:1-42 (Life-Study of Genesis, Messages 102 & 103) The remaining land was divided by casting lots among nine tribes and the other half tribe of Manasseh:

        1. Judah was given the coast on the south-Joshua 15: 1-12
        2. Joseph became two tribes through his Sons Ephraim and Manasseh, to inherit the double portion of the land-Joshua 16-17:18; c Gen. 48:5-6
        3. Benjamin-Joshua 18:11-28
        4. Simeon's portion was within the inheritance of Judah-Joshua 19:1-9
        5. Zebu 19:10-17
        6. Issachar-Joshua 19:17-23
        7. Asher-Joshua 19:24-31
        8. Naphtali-Joshua 19:32-38
        9. Dan-Joshua 19:40-48
    2. No portion of the land was given to the tribe of Levi because God and the priesthood were theft inheritance- Joshua 13:33; 18:7a
    3. Instead of a portion of the land, the Levites were given cities to live in out of all the tribes of Israel- Joshua 21:4-42; cf. Gen. 49:5-7
      1. Each of the twelve tribes set aside some cities for the Levites
      2. The selection of 48 cities was made by lot-Num. 35:6
      3. Six cities were to be cities of reftige-Joshua 20:7-9 (L Study of Genesis, Message 98)
    4. Jehovah gave Israel all the land He promised and they possessed it and lived in it in peace-Joshua 21:43-45

APPLICATION:

  1. Because Joshua and Israel chose to obey God's word, they gained the good land of Canaan.
  2. Today, if we choose and obey God, everything He has promised us will come to pass.
