- The good land was promised to the children of Israel- Genesis 13:15

- No portion of the land was given to the tribe of Levi because God and the priesthood were theft inheritance- Joshua 13:33; 18:7a
- Instead of a portion of the land, the Levites were given cities to live in out of all the tribes of Israel- Joshua 21:4-42; cf. Gen. 49:5-7
- Each of the twelve tribes set aside some cities for the Levites
- The selection of 48 cities was made by lot-Num. 35:6
- Six cities were to be cities of reftige-Joshua 20:7-9 (L Study of Genesis, Message 98)
- Jehovah gave Israel all the land He promised and they possessed it and lived in it in peace-Joshua 21:43-45
