Lesson Twelve: More That Happened to the Two People: The Fall (part 2)

Objectives:

Materials:

1. Lesson Eleven
2. Chalkboard & chalk or large piece of paper mounted for display.
3. Markers, crayons, etc.
4. One discardable or recyclable glove, able to be filled with mud.
5. Container of foul-smelling mud (made that way artificially ahead of time, if necessary).
6. Spoon-type instrument to use with the mud.
7. Props for doctor's office skit.
8. Life-study of Genesis #18 (refer to for explanation of concepts in lesson.)

Implementation:

1. Review: last week's lesson, by asking children what happened to the two people after they had eaten the fruit from the wrong tree. Emphasize that these things - having skin clothing put on them and being made to leave the place where the two trees were - happened to them on the outside. Do you suppose that's all that happened to the two people. No, some other things happened, too on the inside of the two people.
2. Ask, who remembers the name of the part inside people that God made for Himself to get into? Yes, the spirit. Well, why can't He just go ahead and still put Himself into that part inside of these two people, even though these things have happened? Then that way He could still get what He wants most, right? - He could go right on with His plan to get what He wants lots of sons like Him.
3. Ask, who can draw on this board/ paper the picture we put here last week? Let one or more children try; you're after the final drawing, with the two people lying at the bottom, below the diagonal line. What did we say this line was supposed to be? Right: God's plan/road. Now, looking at this, you can see that no. God can't just go on with His plan, which was what? - to put Himself into that part inside that we just talked about, the spirit, so that the two people could become His sons like Him. He can't, because the two people have fallen off the line of God's plan. You see, some very important things happened on the inside of the two people, that made them not fit for God to put Himself into, any longer, Something was "messed up" on the inside, so that they weren't the same people inside that they had been before. They were so "messed up" inside that now God couldn't put Himself into them like He had wanted to do.
4. Show the glove. What is this? What is it made to do? Ask one or more of the children to put his/her hand into it. It works, doesn't it?--you can put your hand into it and it will cover your hand, while you can still use your hand. Demonstrate/use children to demonstrate.
5. Bring Out the container of mud and proceed to spoon it into the glove, commenting meanwhile on its smell and "nastiness," until the glove's fingers are full or nearly so. Then offer it to the same children as before. What? You don't want to put it on now? Why not? Can't you go ahead and use it like you could before? Why not? the outside hasn't changed, has it? Then what's different? Oh, you mean it's the inside that has changed? How is it different on the inside, now? Yes, something is inside of it that wasn't there before.
   This is how it was with the two people: now they were dirty inside like the glove is, and God couldn't put Himself into them now. We call that "dirt" inside of them sin. When they ate that wrong fruit remember? , it looked like the fruit was all that went inside them, but the biggest thing that went inside them was sin - they disobeyed God, didn't they? That was sin. Sin is like the dirt in the glove - where it is, God can't be there too. You won't put your hand in the glove with the mud in it, and God won't put Himself some place where sin is.
   Something else happened on the inside also to the part God had made so that He could get into them what do we call that part? That's right, the spirit. Something very important happened to that part, and it's like what happens to certain parts of your body when you are at the dentist's sometimes, or when you have to have a bad cut sewn shut by a doctor or nurse.
6. Act Out with one or two children an applicable scenario; have the doctor say. "Don't worry, we're going to deaden this part first before we work on it."
7. Ask for input from children--how it feels, etc. You just can't feel anything at all, can you, with that part of you that has been deadened? Well, that's what happened to that special part inside the two people - the spirit - after they ate the wrong fruit. The special part got deadened and couldn't feel anything that had to do with God any longer. Remember the nickname we gave the Tree of Knowing Good and Evil? - yes, "the tree of death." Now you see what God meant when He told them beforehand that if they ate the wrong fruit. they would die. Their special part, the spirit, got deadened inside them.

Reinforcement:

1. Now you know what happened to the two people on the inside, as well as what happened on the outside. Who can tell me the two things we've talked about today that happened to the two people on the inside?
